The short version
- You never sign up. The tool works without your name, an email address or a password.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which features are used. It sets cookies, but we never ask for your name or email, and no ad scripts are loaded.
- Each link you paste is checked with an outside video information service (a third-party API), which returns the title and the download options.
- The only thing kept is a brief cache of video details, held for one hour at most.
What happens when you paste a link
Pasting a link makes your browser hand the 11-character video ID to the Y2mate server. The server then asks a third-party video information API for the title, running time, thumbnail and download links, and relays the reply to your screen. That provider sees the video ID plus a two-letter country code, which our host works out from your connection so the links play where you are. It is our server that contacts the provider, never your device.
So the next person asking for the same video gets a quick answer, those video details sit in our host’s edge cache for an hour or less, and never longer than the download links stay valid. The cache describes the video only. Your IP address, and anything else that could point to you, is not part of it.
Downloads, thumbnails and previews
When results appear, the thumbnail image is loaded from YouTube’s image servers. Download buttons link directly to YouTube’s video servers, so the file travels from YouTube to you without passing through Y2mate. If you press play on the preview, a YouTube player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, which only happens when you click. YouTube’s privacy policy applies to those requests.
Server logs and security
Y2mate is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as IP addresses and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We do not combine this information with anything else or use it to identify you.
Analytics, cookies and storage
Y2mate uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages they open, and which formats and qualities are downloaded. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (such as _ga) and collects technical data like your approximate location, device type and browser. We look at this only as combined statistics and never use it to identify you.
You can block these cookies in your browser settings or with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, and the downloader keeps working either way. No advertising cookies are set, and your links are not saved in your browser. After a lookup the address bar shows the video ID so you can share the result; it stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
Children
Y2mate is a general audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your choices and rights
Since Y2mate holds no personal details about you, a request to see, fix or erase your data usually has nothing to act on. Questions about your information, or requests under privacy law, are welcome through the contact page, and we will answer.
Changes to this policy
If the way Y2mate treats information ever changes, this page and its “Last updated” line will change with it, and any big difference will be spelled out here in everyday language.
